Last November, President Obama signed legislation that made General Casimir Pulaski the first Polish man to be named an Honorary United States citizen posthumously. This recognition is something that Polish Americans have been seeking for seven years now. General Pulaski fought in the American Revolution, and in many battles helped America gain victory. On October 15, 1779, General Pulaski died after being wounded in battle days earlier. To this day, Polish Americans honor General Pulaski with a parade every October in Philadelphia.
