It's not every day that an organization turns 100, so when an organization known for service, education, and patriotism does, it's very special. Such is the case this year as the Boy Scouts of America celebrates its centennial. To coincide with the event, Public Relations Prof. Theresa Cirillo invited a very special boy scout to share his experiences with some Holy Family Students. Why so special, you ask? He's 90.
George Kangian was just a boy when his family first came to Philadelphia after living in mainland Europe. He quickly found the organization and became a member. "The cub scout program is a family program," Mr. Kangian says. "Building character is really the most important thing."
Mr.Kanigan has spent the last 80 years of his life living the mission and ideals of the Boy Scouts. He has been honored by Scout groups in both New Jersey and his adopted hometown of Philadelphia. His meeting with the University students was followed by a Q and A segment as well as a cake cutting in honor of the organization's birthday. Professor Cirillo, the event organizer, was very pleased with the outcome. "Having someone with such an interesting life meet with the students was definitely an eye-opening experience. It was a tremendous success."
