The Theater Workshop Ensemble performed Mobsters, a play developed through guided improvisation, in the Pocket Theater on February 24.

The skit centered around Tony Alto (Jon Dick), the head of a North Jersey gang. Tony and his nightclub are under heavy surveillance by two FBI agents, Turner and Smith (Margaret Boyle and Gina Stanish). Also, the head of a New York gang, Angela Torelli and her head gang member Roy "Boy Toy" Gambini, are selling out Tony to the FBI because one of Tony's gang members killed a member of the Torelli gang.

Tony's wife, Carmela (Aimee Drabyn), suspects that her husband is "running around" on her, which is made apparent to both the audience and Carmela when Tony makes advances toward Carina (Bekki Smith), a woman who frequents Tony's club and the waitress, Joy (Kristie Koczkodon). In the next scene, Carina is shown at the FBI headquarters, turning in the wire the FBI entrusted to her to spy on Tony.

Sometime later, after Tony's club is closed for the night, club singer, Ruby Drake (Marissa Donatone) is relaxing by herself at a table. She spots Carina sneaking in, taping a kilo of cocaine underneath Tony's table before quickly exiting the club.

The next night, Tony and his wife are sitting at their usual table in the club while Angela and Roy are sitting at another table. They catch each other's eye and Tony motions for Angela and Roy to join him at his table. Roy and Tony get into a heated argument about Tony being too deep into Torelli territory. Tony refuses to cease his occupation of Torelli territory and dismisses Angela and Tony.

Not long after they leave, FBI agents Smith and Turner barge in, finding the kilo of cocaine under the table and arresting Tony. After the commotion has settled down, only Ruby and Carina are left in the club, sitting somewhat comfortably in a table, idly chatting about the events of the night.

"I saw you put that kilo under the table," Ruby suddenly says to a stunned Carina while pulling out an FBI badge. "FBI. You're under arrest."

This final act after all of the action has appeared to die down, is the most memorable part of the play because it is completely unexpected and leaves the audience with their mouths hanging open in shock.

The performance was flawless, with the scene changes and dialogue flowing seamlessly together. Keep your eyes peeled for the next performance from the Theater Workshop Ensemble. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
