On just another ordinary day on www.radio1045.com (My favorite radio station's website), I heard a lot of buzz about an up and coming local band, Valencia. Instantly interested, I had to find out more. The site streamed live performances fron the band, and I was hooked! Thus, they are my choice as April's You Outta Know Artist of the Month.

Valencia, named after the city in Spain, is comprised of Shane Henderson, JD Perry, Maxim Sonia, George Ciukurescu, and Brendan Walker. The guys met playing local shows together and the rest, as they say, is history. They were signed to 'I Surrender Records' in 2004, and their debut album, 'This Could Be a Possibility' was released in October 2005.

Valencia was on tour for a big portion of that year, which included playing at the well known 'Warped Tour' and in 2006, the esteemed SPIN Magazine named them Band of the Day. They were a finalist for SPIN's Band of the Year, but unfortunately they lost to 'Nightmare to You'. The band took some time off in the spring of that year to mourn the loss of the Shane Henderson's girlfriend, who died tragically in an accident. Two years later, the band released their second album 'We All Need A Reason to Believe' and since August 2008, they have established quite a large fan base, myself being among them.

Radio 104.5 has been playing "Where Did You Go" over the last few weeks and some of Valencia's other tracks can be played on their MySpace page (www.myspace.com/valencia). Some of my personal favorite tracks include 'Tenth Street', 'The Space Between', and 'Better Be Prepared', which Henderson wrote after losing his girlfriend. There sound has been classified as alternative pop/punk/rock and it's great to listen to while getting pumped up for a night out! They are coming to East Rutherford, NJ, on May 3rd to play at the popular music festival, Bamboozle before hitting the road again and touring the country. They represent our city well and are so worthy of being April's You Outta Know Artist of the Month!
