To understand is not to condone.
Unfortunately, this is difficult for some to comprehend. Some prefer to operate under the assumption that all things are equal, and nuance does not exist. In their minds, to write about a topic is to legitimize it, to discuss something forbidden is suddenly to claim it is permitted.

Have you noticed the financial crisis developing right before our eyes - this country's worst since the Great Depression? Most of us know it exists but don't understand it to the extent we should.
I randomly surveyed over 120 Penn students, and only 31 percent reported that they were "extremely confident" or "pretty confident" in their ability to understand the current financial dilemma.

Ah yes, '"the Best Baruch has to offer" is a young Jewish student wearing
an Obama '08 t-shirt, according to David Chowes. Chowes recollections of the civil rights struggles in the 1960s are impressive to say the least - if you recall three young Jewish men that answered " the call " disappeared and were later found floating in a river - but did it to help fellow citizens of color fight for their civil rights.

In "Campus must unite for change," (Sept. 30), Bob Buckheit, '09, writes, "We cannot remain stuck in the past. It is time to move forward as a unified and strong Lehigh community beyond the entrenched divisions that continue to separate us."The problem with this call for change is that the Greek/non-Greek division, or hierarchy, is strongly embedded in Lehigh's consciousness.

I remember the day during my childhood when I realized I wasn't safe.
On April 20, 1999, I came home from school and turned on MTV, as I used to do back then, to see reports coming through of a massive school shooting.
Two students had gone on a killing spree, murdering 12 students and a teacher, wounding 23 others, and ultimately turning the guns on themselves.

As yet another semester begins at Montclair State University, a new set of problems arise that people complain and whine about. Some are fixed and some aren't, but on the whole, no one is truly satisfied.
One of the problems that finds its way to the top of the complaint list is the shuttle bus situation we have had on campus for years.

He worked 25 years at the U.S. Embassy and would've retired in just 5 more if he stayed in Bangladesh. Instead, Hatef Quazi, 70, gave up his career as an administrative advisor and came to America. Now he is the familiar face who swipes students' cards at the front of the Commons and one of the most beloved figures on the Drew campus.

Hezbollah ate my homework
At another school, I had a kid do his paper on Hezbollah, and he copied most of the paper from their web site. It was the Arabic, among other things, that gave it away. But when I busted him, I offered him the choice of being turned in to the dean or to Hezbollah.
